EASYCUT BASE201 is a semi-synthetic, water-miscible coolant made in Germany for shops whose work is cast iron and unalloyed to low-alloy steel, plus grinding. It is the first step of the EASYCUT range, and it is built for the case where the broader material range simply is not needed.
That is worth stating plainly, because the money is on this side of the decision: BASE201 costs around 17 % less per litre than UNI301. If stainless steel and aluminium do not go through your machines, that difference is pure saving rather than a compromise.
Where it does end: stainless and aluminium are UNI301's territory, and aluminium as the main job belongs to PRO302. Buying BASE201 for work it was not made for is how a cheap litre turns into an expensive part.
Refractometer factor 1.6 — not 1.3. Every other coolant in the range uses 1.3, and this is the one product where that habit misleads you. Five °Brix means 8.0 % with BASE201 and only 6.5 % with the others: read it with the wrong factor and you are running 23 % lean, with everything that follows — corrosion, short sump life, tool wear. Measure with the refractometer and use 1.6.
Make-up water from 10 °dH. BASE201 wants 10 to 30 °dH when the emulsion is set, while the rest of the range starts at 5. In northern Germany, where water is predominantly soft, that is the figure to check before ordering — the article Mixing coolant and water quality covers what soft water does to an emulsion. In use it stays stable up to around 60 °dH.
Beyond that: around 20 % mineral oil in the concentrate — leaner than the 30 % of the higher steps — corrosion protection to DIN 51360/2 at grade 0 from 4 %, pH 10.4 at 5 %, falling in use. Boron-free.
The drum costs around 17 % less per litre than the canister and gives roughly 2600 litres of working emulsion at 8 %. Put the two savings together and BASE201 in a drum works out at about 0.51 EUR per litre of ready emulsion — the lowest running cost in the EASYCUT range. The mixing unit mounts directly on the drum.
