EASYCUT BVR301 is a semi-synthetic, water-miscible coolant made in Germany for heavy machining — high cutting forces, tough materials, the operations where the edge is under load rather than merely hot.
That is a lubrication problem, not a cooling one, and it is where BVR301 differs from the rest of the range in composition rather than in wording. It is the only EASYCUT coolant carrying both a lubricity additive and an EP additive. PRO302 has the EP additive alone; UNI301 and BASE201 have neither. When the cut gets heavy, that pairing is what holds the surface and the edge.
Premium is easy to claim, so here is the measurable version: BVR301 stays stable in use up to around 150 °dH of water hardness. Every other coolant in the EASYCUT range is rated to 60.
That reserve matters because hardness is not a constant. Water evaporates from the tank and the minerals stay behind, so the mix hardens with every top-up — a shop that starts at 20 °dH does not stay there. In southern Germany, where the ground water is hard to begin with, an emulsion can reach the limit of an ordinary coolant within a single sump life. BVR301 has two and a half times that headroom, which is what "premium" means here in practice rather than on a label. The mechanism is explained in Mixing coolant and water quality.
Refractometer factor 1.3 — Brix reading times 1.3, so 5 °Brix is 6.5 %. Measure with the refractometer, daily at high consumption.
Corrosion protection to DIN 51360/2: grade 0 at 5 %. Make-up water 5 to 30 °dH. Around 30 % mineral oil in the concentrate, pH 9.7 at 5 % and falling in use — a sustained drop of more than 0.5 points is the early warning covered in The functions of coolant. Boron-free.
The drum costs around 17 % less per litre than the canister and gives roughly 2600 litres of working emulsion at 8 %. Heavy machining consumes fluid faster than light work — carry-out on hot chips is higher — so the drum is usually the size that matches the job. The mixing unit mounts directly on it.
